Hayride

On Saturday, Oct. 3, we had a hayride at our place. Here we are the afternoon of the hayride arranging hay on the trailer and lining the driveway with hay bales.

Jonathan, Anna, and Danny with Mr. Scarecrow that Naomi French set up.

Getting loaded onto the trailer.

Almost ready to go. We had almost 50 people on the trailer. Most were young folks (or young at heart) fromour church, but also a Ukrainian family came, and a young man that has been working for Jonathan, named David. It was crowded and cold, but we had a lot of fun anyway. We saw quite a few deer as we rode around for almost an hour on backroads through Rattlesnake Bluffs. Afterward, everyone gathered around the fire that Jonathan had built in the driveway to roast weiners and marshmallows. Hay bales were stacked around as a windbreak and and to sit on. Some people of course, didn't care to stay out in the cold and ate in the house instead. Like me, for example. Thanks so much to Grandpa Lucas for keeping the fire watched while we rode on the hayride, and to Grandma Lucas for staying home to watch Baby Hannah so I could ride along on the hayride, too. It was the first hayride like that that the children and I had ever been on.
Before going home, Naomi French and Anna did a little skit that Naomi came up with. In the skit, Naomi was going on a trip and, being in a hurry, left the packing list with Anna, who decided to put anything into the suitcase but what was really needed. So poor Naomi found only crazy things when she arrived at her hotel room for overnight. Instead of toothpaste there was glue, and a fork instead of toothbrush. Instead of a nice set of matching clothes, there was a set of clothes that was --well--anything but nice or matched. And so on. How the children howled! The lesson was: God's Word is our list of what we need to make it to heaven. We can't just look at the Guide and decide to do our own thing. Then we won't make it through the gates of heaven. We won't be ready. We can't decide we don't need to do this or that, or that something God's Word says doesn't really mean what it says. It was a good lesson and a fun time.
Our goldendoodle puppies "kissing." They were actually licking the milk off each other.
