Our Rosie turned 15 last week.
So she didn't have to do the dishes on her birthday--I did them!
Instead, she made these luscious chocolate berry cakes to take along to her picnic.
It was a delicious recipe that used sour cream and a little honey (or sugar) for a frosting.
I'd never heard of such a frosting before, but was it ever good!
We had to split each cake in half to add frosting in between. It was such a nice, moist cake!
So many icings are sooo sickeningly sweet.
So here we are up at the nearby park, spreading tablecloths.
Grandparents and Uncle George and Aunt Irina came, and another family with Rose's friend had planned to come, but ended up not able to.
Here Rose is opening her gifts. This one is an elk towel and wastebasket matching set.
Aunt Irina makes the most darling things.
She is quite the artist!
She painted this jar and added the flower and dried plants with ribbon.
It sprinkled a bit while we were up there, and there was a double rainbow different ones tried to get a picture of.
It was getting a bit chilly and breezy, so we brought everything and everyone to our house afterward.
One of the children got a baby bunny for Uncle George, who dearly loved that little thing.
Uncle George has these squiggly soft spots in his heart and a way of teasing and laughing that we just love.
He told about the time when he used to live in California, when he used to feed the wild bunnies.
He'd have a hundred and fifty bunnies coming for carrots and other food he'd give them!
Old uncles and grandfathers have a lot of fun stories to tell about--everything from milking cows to taking grain to the water mill to feeding wild bunnies!
We love our dear older people!
They have a lot to share with us!
