Thanksgiving Random Game--Great Sports!

Last year the Thanksgiving Random Game went over so well that we tried it again this year--with a different theme. 

This year it was a Tree theme--with quizzes, activities, and skits involving Family Tree, Money Tree, Farmly Tree, Spelling Bee Tree, Tree Skits, and more!

 I had happy helpers as I got prizes ready for the Random Game.

 Here the boys' team is trying to match first names to second names of my mother's aunts, or my great aunts.

My grandmother, Anne Lois Morgan, was born into a family called Berg, German roots.

Anne lost a brother to a drowning accident at a Sunday School picnic, and later that very same year, lost a 12-year-old sister to appendicitis. 

The girls' team hard at work making their best guesses about the first and second names and which one was first or second and which went with which name.

Then the teams had to try to match my grandfather's brothers' first and last names (and in one case, put three names together. That was the name of my grandfather himself--Ronald James Edward Morgan!)

Later there were all sorts of family history questions, and a spelling bee with names of places where my father served in the Air Force, such as Biloxi, Mississippi, and Taegu, Korea, as well as the name of the town where my grandfather grew up in Wales, Nanty Glo. 

Toward the end we had tree skits. Each team had to perform three skits for the other team to guess. Ech team had to guess what kind of tree the other team was representing, what season of year, and what was being done to the tree.  

The girls performed decorating an evergreen Christmas tree, pruning a tree, and collecting maple sap.

The boys performed choosing a Christmas tree from the woods, and George Washington chopping down the cherry tree and then 'fessing up honestly. 

Then each team had to sing and act out a chorus with the word "tree" in it. Both teams did Zaccheus, and one did "The birds upon the treetops..." 

 Then each team had to sing a hymn with the word "tree" in it, except they were not allowed to sing the word "tree." The boys' team sang the second verse of "How Great Thou Art," where it says, 

"When through the woods and forest glades I wander,

And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees..."

but they lost because a certain boy forgot and started to sing "tree."

Then the girls sang a song which I don't remember. 

Then each team had to hum the same songs, and only sing the word "Tree" this time.  

The teams were great sports!
