Not sure Sam and Caitlyn had any idea what was waiting for them when they headed out the door of the Red Bird Wedding Barn.
Sam had five groomsmen--best man Tim (his next youngest brother), Danny (youngest brother), Jed Morley (cousin) and Tom and Danny Hagerty (brother-in-law and friend).
The guys in this photo were riding to either photography session or rehearsal, meantime plotting ways to play tricks on Sam and Caitlyn during the getaway.
Here the five groomsmen were eating a snack and waiting while the bridesmaids or junior bridesmaids get their pictures taken.
Wearing silly glasses or trying to look fierce (and failing).
Tom making friends with one of Caitlyn's nephews whose family lives in Africa.
Here is the nephew's daddy, Josh. Jonathan and I enjoyed visiting with him. It was to Josh's mission in Zambia that Sam traveled a year ago in May on a medical mission trip, meeting Josh and Meagan, Caitlyn's sister. It wasn't long before both Josh and Meagan were connecting Sam and Caitlyn together.
And the mission trip gave Sam the reason and courage to start to talk to Caitlyn--and soon ask her out for their first date.
On that date, Caitlyn had no idea that within a year, she'd be heading through a maze of streamers to their wedding getaway vehicle (Sam's truck) while fire department vehicles waited with lights flashing, and groomsmen screamed up in another vehicle.
Five groomsmen tackled Sam, one after the other while he grabbed his bride and hung on.
As you can see, Sam is literally in the air, but Caitlyn hung on to him, too, and they managed to keep from being pulled apart! The video someone in the family took of the whole scene was matchless!
We could watch that hilarious video over and over, the photographer getting stranded in the middle of streamers, the groomsmen leaping out of the screaming vehicle and racing to the groom, and the whole funny scene! Before long, the groomsmen gave up, and the wedded couple arrive at the truck, Caitlyn celebrating making it through the gauntlet!
Sam skillfully cut through yellow crime tape, streamers, and seran wrap beautifully wrapping his truck!
The groomsmen had put various silly decals on Sam's truck, including Mr. and Mrs. Bigfoot (since Sam has this thing about Bigfoot), Harris/Biden stickers (as if either would ever, ever vote for them) and a "Preserve Wildlife--Eat Pickled Squirrel."
And they were off!
Nearly everyone around helped gather up the narrow streamers until the ground was cleaned up nicely, and then the work of cleanup began.
